There seems to be a lack of empathy and understanding of the fact that we can bring home COVID-19 to our unvaccinated kids. If we must teach on campus, everyone on campus should be vaccinated. In addition, I am concerned that the 70% mandate is not based on any data. I followed the mandate to have the majority of classes in person for my unit this Fall and ended up having to cancel so many classes (including my own) and moving them online. For my unit, it was clear that most of our students wanted to take classes online. I hope that this will change for the Spring semester, but I am concerned it won’t. We should offer every modality: online, hybrid, and fully in person. Courses that are hybrid that meet in person should count, and not be dismissed, because there was a strange, confusing option to count classes as hybrid that only met once in person this semester.
